Sunday Comments October 8

Oh look, Chesney managed to get out of the house and get to the wedding. Sally seems mildly concerned for Rita at least but some of the others are acting like nothing's wrong at all. Did you see that wedding photographer wearing ripped jeans? What's wrong with people? You are attending and working at a posh venue taking photos of a very fancy wedding and you're dressed like that?

We into round 2 of Mr. and Mrs. Weatherfield at the radio station. Colin is making a nuisance of himself with the radio technician. He gives them hints about upcoming questions, helping them along. Norris is put on the spot at one point but manages to get the correct answer. Possibly that was an act after being given the hint.

Michelle's in a mess. The reason is because she's been leaving white roses at the beach where Ruairi's ashes are and here's on on her car. Clearly, someone is following her! I don't think Will knew about the roses she left on the beach but it kind of worked in his favour, having her scared and leaning on him. He takes her home where she's had a lie down apparently, and has missed Aidan's wedding. She wants to get to the reception at least. He's stunned when he finds out that Michelle and Robert aren't actually split up. Rats! Foiled again!

She's determined to get to the reception though wants a drink in the Rovers first. But when she heard about what Eva did to Aidan and realized that Leanne knew, she had another vicious go at Leanne, bringing it all back to Leanne's sleeping with Steve (when they were on a break, may we remind you all, and that break was caused by her leading Will on while Steve was away leading further to Steve and Michelle's marraige nearly going belly up). Why does nobody ever remind Michelle that she's done a lot of stuff, too?

Will tempted Michelle back to see his new place. It's very white and modern. He nearly put something in her drink. Saved by the bell of the microwave, which had him rethinking that little option. Michelle thinks he's upset over the breakup with Maria. He pretends but then invited her to move in with her for safety while Robert's in jail. He continued to push the fear button, but then moved in for a kiss, claiming mixed signals but she told him straight.

But you know what you do when you're in someone's house? You look around a bit. In her attempt to find a CD, Michelle finds a photo album with Nick's Bistro on the cover and loads of photos of her inside, clearly taken by someone who was watching her. Will is her stalker, which we knew, and now, so does she! She managed to get out quickly or tried to but the cab was late. Will started to get suspicious I think and that made him creepier than ever.

Michelle went to see her mate at the bar and confirmed that Will was at the bar and left without ordering a drink. She's putting all the pieces together but doesn't have hard evidence yet. She went to the police and they told her the same thing. She's so freaked out she's going to fly to Ireland. She then threw everyone out of the restaurant and is telling them all it's staying shut. But somehow, Will managed to get in.

She's a bundle of nerves, how can he not figure it out? Michelle blames it on an argument with Robert and lets him hug her but Leanne is still there and catches them in the hug. Michelle's desperate and after getting Will out of the room, tells her everything. She's got to act like nothing's wrong and that's not going to be easy. Of all the lies a girl has to make! But leave it to a Battersby to sort Will out!

Leanne brought Steve in to help Michelle and she's not happy about it but he wants to talk her into going to the police. Steve, the voice of reason, first time for that. But they need evidence. First step, get the keys. Daniel is dragged in on distraction duty though not told many details. Will arrives and Michelle lures him in perfectly, telling him she's split with Robert for real and wants him to help her sort out ideas for starting up a pub of her own. He bites, delighted.

They start to talk and Daniel does as ordered, spills water all over Will who is annoyed as expected. He goes in the gents' and Michelle steals his key and gives it to Steve to copy. They manage it and she manages to get Will's keys back to him. Michelle passes them the alarm code. She and Will leave for a nice lunch out so Leanne and Steve can search his house though Leanne worries that Michelle is on her own with Will.

At the house, Steve has trouble with the alarm code but they get in. Leanne admits to Steve that she's helping Michelle because she owes her. Leanne takes photos of all the photos that Will has of Michelle. Steve calls Leanne upstairs just at the same time Will gets a call from a neighbour concerned that someone is in his house. Oh, oh! Michelle tries to talk him out of immediate investigation but he's going so she is too, furiously texting a warning before getting in the car. Steve, meanwhile, finds a scarf that he gave to Michelle. In the box, there's a Steve and Michelle wedding photo that has been damaged. Leanne photographs it all. Steve finally gets the text but it might be too late. Leanne scrambles to put the photos back just as Will drives up.

Rita is still a bit vague but mostly back to her own self, though can't remember that she forgot who Jenny was. Johnny is gentle with her. Rita wants to know he'll keep an eye on Gemma but he insists she's going to be just fine. He brushes off the wedding and goes to find Jenny and Rita leans over to a newly arrived Gemma to do a very important errand. That errand was to get Jenny into her wedding dress. She sashays into Rita's room to show off. There's a problem, though, traffic is gridlocked and the cab can't get them there in time so it's Gemma to the rescue.

Gemma stays with Rita after Jenny and Johnny leave, when the doctor comes to tell her that there's a small tumour on her brain and that's what is causing all the memory and confusion. They want to operate as soon as possible and will schedule it in the next few weeks. They don't know if it's malignant and the surgery is risky in itself. Rita is shocked to the core. It might be cancer. Gemma is gutted but Rita tells her not to cry until there's something to cry about.

Loved Rita's trip down memory lane about old friends who are all gone now. She talked about Ted and his brain tumour and watching him fail before he died. She's determined to face it on her own but Gemma won't let her. And over the course of a few scenes, we see some of Rita's friends getting calls. That's Gemma calling all her friends to be with her. Very important and very touching that they all dropped everything to go, even Norris in the middle of the competition final. It certainly put a smile on Rita's face. Even Norris, just about to answer the final question of the competition showed up, disqualifying he and Mary because Rita is far more important.

Colin wasted no time after the botched Mr. and Mrs. competition to come round to the Kabin for a snoop. He found Norris and Mary in the pub later, and offered to buy the Kabin from him. Norris, he say no deal. I don't think Colin's going to give up.

Eva's in shock. She never expected Aidan to confess all now that it's too late. Or is it? He told her everything. Maria, how long, when etc. Telling her he ended it because she was pregnant isn't really any consolation. Of course she knows there's no baby. He wants a second chance. So now he's come over all honest and begging for forgiveness but she's lying right back when it comes to the baby. He's going to wait to see if she shows up. Eva certainly feels guilty about her revenge now that she knows all the rest of the family didn't know. Toyah is quietly continuing to poke a stick at her while Eva is having second, third and fourth thoughts. And she's right, Eva has to tell him about the non-baby but Eva isn't going to face that today.

What she does have to face is Adam and finds him in the law office and tells him to call it of but It's too late. Adam is not very nice about it, either, and is upset, so he says, that she's going to marry someone so unworthy of her. He clearly fancies her. Meanwhile, there is also a team of men cleaning out Underworld of stock and, I think, equipment as well.

We jump to the wedding venue where Aidan is waiting nervously for his bride with his sister, Kate. Eva and Toyah arrive and have photos taken. Eva goes inside and Toyah notices Maria in an upstairs window and knows there's going to be trouble. She tracks Maria to the room she's got and manages to lock her in the bathroom and with a Do Not Disturb sign on the room door, she takes off to get Eva to the aisle and she does, much to Aidan's relief. She professes that she always loved him even when she hated him. She proceeded towards her intended who looks grateful.

Maria is so determined that she manages to escape, all her hollering alerting one of the staff. She gets to the wedding room before the pronouncing of husband and wife and interrupts the ceremony. She tells Aidan it's a sham. She doesn't care that Aidan confessed. She has the fake scan and outs Eva's fake pregnancy. Looks like Aidan's going to have a broken heart, too. Eva's revenge is going to crumble to ashes in her mouth as Aidan shouts at her to explain.

He bellows that she lied to him but she screamed back at him about knowing of the affair. Her best mate and her boyfriend for a year! You can understand why she wanted to hurt him as much as he hurt her when you hear her putting it all out there like that. Loved her fight with Maria in the fountain with everyone watching.

Eva finally found Aidan in the honeymoon suite and tried to explain. He admitted he loved two women. And the way he tells it, it did make more of a difference that he was going to be a father. She thinks they could patch it up but he isn't having it.He's talking about the baby lie, he hasn't even remembered all the financial stuff she's pulled. She decided to shout from the rooftops so she crawled out the window in a heavy, wet dress.

Bad idea. She nearly fell and couldn't get back inside so Aidan had to rescue her. Her dress is caught so she's going to have to strip out of it. Meanwhile, her friends have a sheet in case Eva falls or jumps while Rosie has her phone camera/video on ready for the action but all it caught in the end was the dress. Eva went back through the window on top of Aidan. They talked some more, her hoping they can work things out somehow. I hate to see a woman beg.

Let's backtrack a bit...
Johnny and Jenny arrived on the backs of motorcycles! Gemma's mates, you may recall. When they heard about what was going on, Jenny thought they would have to cancel but Johnny was determined. Aidan can clean up his own mess. Awww. Jenny looked stunning, too! Johnny's vows were great and hers were very touching. But she broke down talking of Rita and he realized they had to take the wedding to Rita. Billy, you're up! Audrey and Mary provided the music and Norris stepped in as best man so he could hold the rings. Billy performed the fastest wedding ever and Jenny and Johnny are now Mr. and Mrs.

Adam and his client head to the Rovers to celebrate as they watch the Underworld Van and other trucks take away the guts from the factory. Adam sits in the pub listening to Sean predict big changes at the factory, due to the new Mrs. Connor. Not quite. But changes there is. Johnny carried Jenny over the threshold to a big surprise. The factory has been completely emptied, including part of the roof which makes no sense at all, especially with absolutely nobody noticing. Ok, a lot of people were at the wedding but not everyone on the street.

The morning after, the rest of the staff got their shock. I would imagine they'd all be able to go on benefits for this but you never hear of them talking about stuff like that. Meanwhile, Johnny has a very big thing on his hands to sort out and he can't get hold of Aidan who has spent the night in the honeymoon suite with Eva. The workers are all upset of course and don't know what to do next. Job Centre, you guys! Even if the factory rises again, it will take awhile and benefits will fill in the gap.

Talking almost worked for Adam and Eva and they both forgive each other. No more lies or secrets. Uh oh. That might be a problem. She thinks she was able to stop Adam but of course, she didn't. They nearly made it back to where they could work things out but with the gutted factory before them, that's their relationship done like dinner. That last lie was one humdinger.

All the excitement now over, Rita has to face an uncertain future with her health issues. That creepy Colin showed up in hospital with chocolates under his arm, wanting to buy her flat. That's to go along with the Kabin. He's very insidious isn't he? It feels like he'd really take advantage of her poor health. He's like a steamroller. It sounds like Colin has persuaded Norris to sell and Mary is horrified. She doesn't trust Colin, Oh no, she doesn't.

Meanwhile, Rita's staying at Johnny's and making plans to buy a motor home and travel with Gemma behind the wheel.

Adam wasn't happy to see that Eva and Aidan were evidently reconciled. But Johnny laid down the last shock, he's already worked out that scamming the factory must have been part of Eva's revenge. Will they really arrest Eva? Do they have actual proof? The police consider it could be insurance fraud and if they think that, the insurance company will, too. Eva couldn't deny it to Aidan, however. Poor Aidan can't even throw her out of the flat because it's in her name. He can't stay with Johnny because Rita's there but I don't think Johnny would let him anyway. Now Johnny's even thinking of throwing the towel in altogether.

Eva tore a strip off Adam who admitted to Eva he fancies her but she doesn't want to know. Elsewhere, Aidan seems to have dived into a bottle and come up on a sofa somewhere. Oh, he's with Monica, Chandler and Rachel... that is.... Alya, Luke and Kate, I mean. Well, Kate is his sister after all. At the factory, Johnny tears down the hazard tape. He's feeling pessimistic, even if the factory could be rebuilt, what about the good will, the clients? Kate tries to be encouraging but when Aidan arrives, it's clear Johnny is still spitting nails. He can't even talk to his son. Sean and Izzy spy the obvious contention and decide to call a staff meeting.

They can't seem to come up with an explanation or a plan and ask Eva if she's got any insight but of course she brushes it off. Sally advises them not to panic but it's a bit late for that. Poor Eva really feels bad, listening in and knowing she's to blame. Aidan comes in the pub, exchanges painful looks with Eva but the factory workers nab him before he can leave again. They want answers and he doesn't have any to give them other than to blame Eva but doesn't go into specifics.

Outside Aidan sees Maria who wants to avoid him but doesn't. She offers him a shoulder to cry on, against her better judgement.

Yasmeen has a petition to prevent closure of the maternity unit. What?? Why on earth would a hospital do that? Boggles the mind. And it's going to be a debating point between Sally and Kirk so I guess it's being played for comedy. An aside, as a wronged wife, I loved Yasmeen deciding that Aidan had the whole thing coming, re Eva pretending to be pregnant, because of the affair!

Should prove to be a rather contentious election campaign if Sally's own sister is backing the opponent, mainly out of spite, I have to say. Sally doesn't think Kirk can even get the signatures he needs to be able to apply and I don't think Kirk really wants to run for Mayor, not really. I think he's thinking it's just a laugh. But isn't Tim a star!? He brought Gina down a few pegs pointing out that Sally was running on causes such as mental health hoping to improve things for people like her sister.

Sally made her speech to support the maternity unit. It didn't seem to go over quite as well as she hoped. Tim supported her but Gina seemed to want to pull Kirk back from the fray. He stood up to speak and the crowd went wild, probably because he was wearing his Buzzer the Bee costume. They liked his jokes but admitted he doesn't really know what he's doing and neither do most people. But by likening his kennels giving puppies a proper start, and comparing it to people, he got his point across and everyone cheered, a lot more than they reacted to Sally.

Liz is still on the path of the mystery man that scammed her. She's been making friends and luring him in. Meanwhile, the boss, Moira is a walking encyclopedia of staff rotas and appointments, all of which she memorizes in case of power failure. Liz complemented her on her work ethic and it turns out, Moira's husband isn't really forthcoming with nice words. This all feels coincidental to me, don't you think? Anyway, the man called Lenny showed up at the pub. Liz played the role perfectly. He was very smarmy. Odd, though, Moria came in and Lenny looked very uncomfortable. He slithered out behind her back just as Colin spilled a drink on her. I wonder if the two of them are working together? Seemed very coincidental. She certainly fell quickly for Colin's fake charm.

The next day, Moira returns from lunch early because her husband cancelled. Rana sucks up with flattery. Turns out Rana is covering for Liz. Something came up, to do with that scam artist. We see Liz in the pub later and she looks nervous. Moira comes peeping around the door because she's curious about the man Liz is going to meet and he's late. Moira goes to the bar but Eva has to go to the cellar to help Sarah with something. While she's still at the bar, Lenny comes in to join Liz. Moira recognizes him and it turns out his name is Stewart, not Lenny. Well, he's well and truly stitched up now.

Sarah leaves Gary a message and is about to help Bethany re-enroll in school. Bethany really can't be bothered. The trial is far too distracting. Sarah tells her she has to have something for her future once Nathan is convicted. But it turns out the school want her to repeat the whole year or she can't take her A levels. Bethany feels like she's going backward, not forward. Audrey has an idea. She offers Bethany an apprenticeship, one day a week in college and a job. Bethany isn't so sure. Audrey and Sarah try to encourage her.
